Draft #2 Summary Reader Response: "Autonomous vehicles"

In this article “Singapore revs up engines for autonomous vehicles race” Noble (2019) stated that a temporary national standard called “Technical Reference 68(TR 68)” plays an important role in developing autonomous vehicles (AVs), which advocates the safety of fully deplorable AVs. Noble also mention that TR68 was implemented to deal with "four key areas of AV deployment including vehicle behaviour, vehicle functional safety, cybersecurity, and data formats". Noble then wrote about a statement made by Loh Ngai Seng, chairman of the Committee on Autonomous Road Transport for Singapore (CARTS) “in the early 2020s, we hope that TR 68 will guide AV industry players in the safe and effective deployment of AVs in Singapore”. According to Noble a report by Fitch Ratings found that implementation of TR68, would improve Singapore's establishment and acceptance of AVs. The purpose of this email is to introduce myself so that you could know me better. I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a D iploma in Biomedical Engineering in 2017 and I am currently studying Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (SIE - Land).   I gained an interest in engineering during my polytechnic days, as I love problem-solving and I am also interested in the transport system in Singapore. Therefore, I decided to pursue this degree in  the Singapore Institute of Technology(SIT). I love to sing during my free time. Singing is a type of performing arts and a type of communication. For example, by singing a birthday song, it tells the person you care ab...

Task 3: The Importance of communication skills for engineers

Hi, During the first tutorial lesson, my group was tasked to share our personal opinion on a statement. “Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students’ education but also to prepare them for their future careers.”Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007) To me, communication skills are one of the most important components for all humans. Not only for education and definitely not just for engineers. Communication skills can be shown in different levels and it can be as simple as saying a "good morning" to someone. Saying "good morning" to someone shows that you're ready to welcome them or just simply wishes them to have an enjoyable morning. Therefore, engineers are also humans. They will need strong communication skills during their education period and during their working phase, basically everywhere they go they will need it. For example, a field service ...
